It’s so easy to get caught up in wishful thinking about the life you hope to live ‘someday’.  In fact, it can be downright depressing, when you think about how unlike your everyday reality is from the future you dream about.

Take a few minutes to think about what a typical day in that ideal life looks like.

Where do you live?  Who lives there with you?

Describe the room you woke up in.  What does it look like?  What’s in there?  What do you see out the window?  How do you feel?  What are you looking forward to?

It’s time to get dressed now.  Where are you going today?  What are you going to wear?  How does it make you feel?

Let’s get some breakfast!  What are you having?  Where are you sitting to enjoy your breakfast?  What do you see from your seat at the table?  What else are you doing?

It’s time to start your day!  What are you going to do first?  When you leave the house, what are you driving?  How does that make you feel?  What do you take with you?  How long does it take you to get there?

You’ve reached your destination.  Where is it?  What are you going to do there?  Who else is there?  What does it look like?  Why did you go there?  Is this where you work?  If so, describe your office.  How have you personalized it?  How long will you be staying?  What are you working on?  What is the most interesting part of that?

Lunch time!  Where are you going?  Who is with you?  What are you eating?  How long do you take for lunch?  How do you get there?  What else are you doing on your lunch break?

What’s on your agenda this afternoon?  Where are you now?  Who else is there?  What are you doing?  What do you hope to finish today?

You have the entire evening free.  What do you want to do?  Where are you going?  Who is with you?  Do you go home first?  Do you change clothes?  What are you wearing?  How does that make you feel?

Time for dinner!  Where are you?  Who is with you?  What do you talk about?  Or if you’re alone, what do you think about?  What are you having?  What’s on the table?  If you are at home, who cooked dinner?  Who cleans up?

What do you do for the rest of the evening?  What are you watching, or listening to, or reading?  Where are you?  Who is with you?  Describe the place you’re in.  How do you feel?  How are you relaxing?

It’s the end of the day.  What do you do before going to bed?  How do you feel about the day you’ve had?  What are you looking forward to tomorrow?

Write it all down, and include as much detail as possible.  And when you’re done, when you feel like you’ve created the perfect day, take another look at it.  Look at all the details.

What can you recreate RIGHT NOW?

If you had an omelet and fresh fruit for breakfast, why can’t you have that now?  Maybe the view from your bedroom window isn’t snow-capped mountains like in your dream life, but who says you can’t hang a picture of those mountains?  Maybe you envisioned candles and fresh flowers on your dinner table.  That’s easy enough to duplicate. Replace those sheets and pillows if it will make your bed more inviting.  Can’t spring for that gorgeous outfit you saw yourself wearing?  How about just the blouse?  Is that new car a bit out of your reach right now?  Why not wash and detail the one you have?

The point is, there’s no reason to deprive yourself just because you can’t have the whole package right now.  Add in the parts that you can, and see how much better you feel!  And when you feel better, good things come your way!

Give it a try!
